Cronkite’s voice was kept on the air even after his death July 17.”
As comforting as it is to look back on the great career that Walter had, we’re looking forward now and we just felt it was the right time to make the move that at some point had to be made,” said CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus. “This seemed like the appropriate time since Walter’s passing to make the move.

AP-Oscar winner Morgan Freeman has reached an out-of-court settlement with a woman who was his passenger in a car crash and later sued him, court documents showed on Thursday.
Details of Freeman’s settlement with Demaris Meyer, the passenger in the August 2008 crash, were not made public in court records, and a spokesman for the actor said that no further details would be disclosed.
But as a result of the settlement, Chief Judge Michael Mills of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Mississippi, dismissed the lawsuit on Thursday.
Meyer sued Freeman, 72, star of “The Bucket List” and “Bruce Almighty,” in February, accusing him of negligence for failing to properly operate the car. She was represented by celebrity attorney Gloria Allred.
In a statement, Allred said Meyer “is pleased that the matter is resolved and the case is settled.”
Morgan Freeman has been discharged from a Tennessee hospital nearly one week after flipping his car in a serious crash. A spokesperson at The Regional Medical Center in Memphis confirmed the discharge but gave no other details.
The Dark Knight star told ET, “I left the hospital today just after 12 noon, Memphis time. I’m doing very well. I feel real good. I just really, I thank the staff at Elvis Presley [medical facility] and many, many thanks to my many well-wishers. It’s great to know people care about you.”
The Oscar-winning actor, 71, was treated for a broken arm, elbow and shoulder damage sustained in Sunday night’s accident in Miss. He underwent surgery on Monday to reconnect nerves and to repair damage to his left arm and hand. Freeman’s passenger, Demaris Meyer, was also injured in the crash.
On Wednesday, Freeman’s lawyer confirmed to Access Hollywood that the actor is divorcing with his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee and that “for legal and practical purposes, have been separated since December of 2007.” The couple own a home in Tallahatchie County, Miss.
Morgan freeman is still in the hospital recovering yet he decides to announce the end of his 26 year old marriage from his hospital bed. Which really then begs the question, WHO WAS THAT WOMAN IN THE CAR WITH HIM WHEN HE CRASHED IT. So far we know the woman was a friend of his wife’s but were these two romantically involved. I think so. Did hot romance cause the accident?
I can’t wait to see what’s next in the Morgan Freeman saga. Wouldn’t it be great if the 71 year old academy award winner turned into a Britney Spears or a Paris Hilton coming out of all of this…lol. I’ll keep you posted on the next Morgan Freeman episode.

Update, From People: Morgan Freeman is in good spirits and is planning to have surgery after sustaining injuries in a car accident Sunday night, the actor’s rep said in a statement Monday afternoon.
“He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits,” said Donna Lee. “He is going to have surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to correct the damage. He says he’ll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery.”
The Dark Knight actor, 71, was listed in “serious” condition after a late-night car accident. Freeman was driving in Tallahatchie County when the accident happened at about 11:30 p.m., according to Mississippi Highway Patrol. He was removed from the wreck using the jaws of life, then airlifted from the accident scene to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

TMZ has learned that Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman has been injured in a serious car accident in Mississippi.
Cops tell us the “Dark Knight” star was in a one car accident around 11:30 PM last night north of Ruleville, Miss. He was airlifted from the accident scene to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. We’re told alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the wreck.
Freeman’s condition is unknown, but state troopers tell us he was talking at the scene before he was taken to the hospital. The condition of an unidentified female passenger in the car is also unknown.
