CULVER CITY, CA - JUNE 10: Musicians Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel perform during the 38th AFI Life Achievement Award honoring Mike Nichols held at Sony Pictures Studios on June 10, 2010 in Culver City, California. Simon and Garfunkel’s planned tour of North America has been “postponed indefinitely” because Art Garfunkel has a condition affecting his voice.

He is recovering from a vocal paresis which “inhibits the duo from performing shows” to their normal standard, a statement on their website said.

The tour had already been postponed from April to July.

The stars, who performed together in the US earlier this month for a TV special, are offering refunds.

I do feel bad about disrupting so many people’s plans but, as I continue to mend, I can’t yet bring my A game to a tour, and I would not perform for you with anything less

- Art Garfunkel

On 10 June, they performed Mrs Robinson, which featured in 1967’s The Graduate, at an event honouring the film’s director, Mike Nichols.

But Garfunkel would not be fit for a full tour, the duo explained.

“According to his doctors, Art is expected to make a full recovery. However, they cannot predict an exact timeline,” a statement said.

Garfunkel added: “I do feel bad about disrupting so many people’s plans but, as I continue to mend, I can’t yet bring my A-game to a tour, and I would not perform for you with anything less.”
‘Knockout reaction’

The 68-year-old singer revealed the duo’s plans to tour again in an interview with the BBC News website in February 2009.

He spoke of the plans five days after making a surprise appearance at a Paul Simon concert in New York, where the pair performed hits like The Sounds of Silence, The Boxer and Old Friends.

He told BBC News they had received “a hell of a knockout of a reaction”.

He added: “I said to the audience, ‘you don’t have a right to expect – and we didn’t expect – that the interest in us would last and you would still care right to today and I’m touched’.”

Simon and Garfunkel, who last toured together in 2003 and 2004, have famously fallen out on a number of occasions since they first made music together as school friends in New York in the 1950s.

Lead singer Bono of the rock band U2 performs during the opening night of the North American leg of their 360 degree tour at Soldier Field in Chicago
UsMag – Bono has been released from a Munich hospital after undergoing emergency back surgery late last week. He’ll begin a rehabilitation program to recuperate for at least eight weeks, Live Nation said in a statement. “Bono suffered severe compression of the sciatic nerve. On review of his MRI scan, I realized there was a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc, and that conservative treatment would not suffice,” said Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt. “I recommended Bono have emergency spine surgery with Professor Tonn at Munich’s LMU University Hospital on Friday.” When Bono was admitted to the hospital Friday, “He was already in severe pain with partial paralysis in the lower leg. The ligament surrounding the disc had an 8mm tear and during surgery we discovered fragments of the disc had traveled into the spinal canal,” said his surgeon, Professor Tonn.

“This surgery was the only course of treatment for full recovery and to avoid further paralysis. Bono is now much better, with complete recovery of his motor deficit. The prognosis is excellent, but to obtain a sustainable result, he must now enter a period of rehabilitation.”
Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt said, “We are treating Bono as we would treat any of our athletes, and while the surgery has gone very well, the coming weeks are crucial for a return to full health

From Just Jared – The 46-year-old actor, who also played guitar on the track, shot the video back in September in Herts, England.

The video is based on the short story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” written by Ambrose Bierce in 1890.

“This particular version was just a bit too intense for the folks over at Yahoo’s Standards and Practices department,” Babybird’s label, Unison, wrote on their YouTube page. “However, we believe that this version gives the viewer the true vision intended by both the artist and director.”
