USA Today – Could it be? According to John Mayer’s blog, the singer is in the middle of a one-week digital cleanse.
That’s right. Mayer is going off the digital media grid for a week and will resurface on Jan. 8.
He writes, “I’ll be defragmenting my mental and psychological hard drive during the first seven days of the new year, and I invite you all to participate.” Well, he won’t be completely offline. According to Mayer’s rules, email is allowed from laptop or desktop computers.
Here are his guidelines:
- email only from laptop or desktop computers
- cell phones can only be used to make calls, and no text messages or e-mails are allowed – if you receive a text, you must reply in voice over the phone. E-mails must be returned from a laptop or desktop computer.
- no use of Twitter or any other social networking site – this includes reading as well as posting.
- no visiting of any entertainment or gossip sites. (No need to detail which ones – you know what they are.)

John Mayer says he is taking a break from dating. “I’m not dating,” the singer, 32, says on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday. “I don’t know if you know this, but I have sort of a funny track record. Which is actually not that strange given my age. I’m a little freaked out right now about it, to be honest.”
Adds Mayer, “I’m just going to let time pass and just do my thing.”
This past year, Mayer made headlines for his on-and-off romance with Jennifer Aniston. He has also romanced Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Minka Kelly, among others.
But he isn’t complaining
“For some reason, whoever I date has been famous for a while,” he says. “I can’t sit here and be like, ‘Oh please, let me live my life in private with this famous person who’s been around for 15 years.’ I have to figure out what are the things that I ask for and sign up for, in terms of cause and effect. The last thing you want is to see me bashing my head going, ‘I’m shocked that I’m being followed right now!’”
At the end of the day, Mayer insists, “I have a good heart. I think I may have gotten lost a couple of times, but so does everybody. I’m just going to hunker down. 2010 is a peaceful year for me, no matter what I do.”

JOHN MAYER was caught trying to smuggle a small knife onto a recent flight, according a U.S. tabloid report.
The singer was caught with the blade as he passed through a security checkpoint at New York’s JFK Airport on 19 October (09), reports Star Magazine.
The tabloid claims the eagle-eyed guard didn’t confiscate the knife – instead he let Mayer hand it to his chauffeur, who returned it to the star’s home.
A source tells Star magazine, “John got busted carrying a pocketknife through security. But when the officer realised who it was, he got so starstruck that he let John go and gave him back the knife, so long as he didn’t take it on board.”
