Johnny Depp shows off a different side of himself as a director for the music video for “Unloveable” from Babybird.
From Just Jared – The 46-year-old actor, who also played guitar on the track, shot the video back in September in Herts, England.
The video is based on the short story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” written by Ambrose Bierce in 1890.
“This particular version was just a bit too intense for the folks over at Yahoo’s Standards and Practices department,” Babybird’s label, Unison, wrote on their YouTube page. “However, we believe that this version gives the viewer the true vision intended by both the artist and director.”
Well, congratulations to Johnny. With all of these magazines falling all over themselves for him, it’s a wonder he doesn’t have an Oscar already. You know that the second he wins one, the anti-Depp backlash will begin. And it will probably die quickly, because I think most people think Depp is pretty awesome. He’s like James Bond – men want to be him, women want to be with him.
In other Depp news, he is most likely signing on to play Pancho Villa in a bio-pic called… wait for it… Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers. That honestly has “Oscar” written all over it. Johnny’s costar in the film would likely be Salma Hayek, probably playing this elusive six-fingered woman. Oh, and the dialogue would be Spanish-heavy. According to Variety, “The script is based on the biographical novel “The Friends of Pancho Villa,” in which author James Carlos Blake recounts how Villa and his compadres had a great time fighting and robbing the rich, but also dancing, partying and making love.” Is anyone else getting hot at the idea of Salma and Johnny going at it like rabbits?
PEOPLE – Break out the Bordeaux, the whoopee cushions and the bangin’ Keith Richards guitar solos, because the 2009 Sexiest Man Alive party is officially under way. Bringing the fun with him wherever he goes – whether it’s onscreen in fizzy roles like Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise or at home with his family on their private Bahamian island – is just one reason why Johnny Depp, who also scored the honor in 2003, has joined an elite club of two-time SMA title holders (only Brad Pitt and George Clooney have matched the feat). At 46, the father of two still reigns as Hollywood’s most irresistible iconoclast; as one-of-a-kind as his beloved 15-year-old boots and as smoldering as his favorite Cuban cigars.
“Johnny Depp has magical powers. He’s unlike anyone else,” says actress Isla Fisher, who’s married to Sacha Baron Cohen. “He’s funny, generous and clever. It’s just a shame he’s so hard on the eyes.”
Filmstalker – I’m rather surprised, and I’m not sure if it’s because I now expect this from Johnny Depp and his career is going this way, or because he’s decided to take on this role even though he’s Johnny Depp. I think it really depends on how the film turns out and which way the film plays it.
There’s no Lone Ranger chosen as yet, but Jerry Bruckheimer has his Tonto, and when he tells us the comparisons to Pirates of the Caribbean, I think we know exactly where the film is headed.
You see Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that Johnny Depp will be playing Tonto in the upcoming film version of The Lone Ranger, and I guess that brings with it a few other surprises, first that the rumour of the film was real, and second that Depp is taking the second role in the film.
If you think about that, the fact that Depp is taking the co-star role, you have to realise that either Tonto is going to be the real lead of the film, or that The Lone Ranger is going to be played by an equally as big name.
Here’s what Bruckheimer had to say about the film, but not before he revealed that he expected Depp to do for Tonto what he did with Captain Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Johnny Depp Minus the Fantasy Costumes, and Magical Makeup …
WWTDD – In Hollywood it’s always the people who have achieved fame or a title for no particular reason who are prone to hissyfits and outbursts like Perez Sunday night. It’s hard to believe that he and JohnnyDepp are even part of the same species, much less work in the same town. Radar says…
“Mohammed A . Sekhani — a veteran waiter at Chicago’s legendary steakhouse Gibsons — (said): ‘Johnny and his party arrived just after 11.30pm at the restaurant and requested a private room. He had visited our restaurant several times before while he was filming Public Enemies and he promised me that he would return after the premiere.
‘He was in good spirits throughout the evening chatting with Mr Mann and Miss Cotillard. He is a very soft spoken guy who is very charming and sweet – when I wait for him he doesn’t like to be too fussed over and is not in any way demanding.‘He may be one of the most famous actors in the world but he is a very humble guy and a really cool dude. Obviously, I was delighted with his tip but he has always been very generous.’”
Can they adapt this for the billionth time and still make it fresh?
Daily Mail – Johnny Depp may be one of the most desirable men in Hollywood, but he looks far from handsome in his latest film role.In place of his light golden tan and dark brown hair, Depp is unrecognisable with his curly orange hair, pasty skin and pink make-up as she plays the ghoulish-looking Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s upcoming adaptation of Alice In Wonderland. The 46-year-old actor joins Anne Hathaway, Matt Lucas, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry and Helena Bonham Carter in the eagerly-anticipated movie.
MAGICAL LOOKING!
Eccentric: Johnny Depp is unrecognisable as the pasty, ginger Mad Hatter
Relative unknown Mia Wasikowska, 19, from Australia, will be playing Alice, who is much older in the film than in CS Carroll’s classic. Seventeen-year-old Alice struggles to fit into Victorian society and is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of people at a garden party. She flees the party and spots the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) and follows him down a hole and into Wonderland. While film fans will have to wait until March 2010 to see the film, Disney have given them a taste of things to come with the first official glimpse of the cast in their garish costumes.
Off with their heads: Helena Bonham Carter, with an oversized head, is the Red Queen
The look of the film is typical Burton style with Victorian styling and extreme colour contrasts. As well as being transformed by their costumes, the cast’s features have been digitally altered, making them look far removed from their normal selves. As the tea-drinking, unbirthday-celebrating Mad Hatter, Johnny’s eyes are yellow and enlarged. Producer Richard Zanuck said: ‘This character is off his rocker. He is so much fun and so nutty, I can’t imagine anyone else doing it.’
Ethereal: Anne Hathaway plays the White Queen who was overthrown by her power-crazed sister
The film also stars Burton’s muse and real-life partner Bonham Carter, whose head has been digitally swelled to play the Red Queen.Dressed in full royal regalia, Bonham Carter’s body is dwarfed by her bulbous head, a physical reflection of the Queen’s enormous ego.The Red Queen has overthrown her sister, the White Queen (Hathaway) and has turned Wonderland from a peaceful kingdom to a land of paranoia and fear.Zanuck explained: ‘The creatures are ready to revolt and waiting for Alice to help them.’Normally a brunette, Hathaway looks ethereal with her platinum blonde hair and alabaster skin as she plays the exiled Queen.
Rhyming mad: Matt Lucas has been digitally-enhanced beyond all recognition to play Tweedledee and TweedledumZanuck describes her as ‘beautiful but over the top. She doesn’t walk. She floats. She’s very eccentric’.The Devil Wears Prada star Hathaway added: ‘She’s cute, but psycho. Things even out.’Little Britain star Lucas plays rhyming twins Tweedledee and Tweedledum, who has been digitally manipulated to look egg-shaped using motion-capture technology. The pair are two of the first characters to meet Alice upon her arrival in Wonderland and introduce her to the Mad Hatter.
Encounter: Alice speaks to the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) as he checks his timepiece
Explaining his casting of newcomer Wasikowska as Alice, Burton said: ‘We met a lot of people, but she just had that certain kind of emotional toughness, standing her ground in a way that makes her kind of an older person with a younger person?s mentality.’The film also stars Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, Rickman as the Caterpiller, Fry as the Cheshire Cat and Back To The Future actor Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts.
• Alice in Wonderland will be released in both traditional and 3-D format on March 12 2010.

Mel Gibson isn’t the the only one with a private Island…
Johnny Depp Currently shooting Alice in Wonderland, Lone Ranger, and another Pirates Sequel (reportedly has bottles of wine flown to the set too) opens up about his…
Johnny Depp knows a little bit about living life under the media’s glare. So when he wants to get away, the star and his family head to Little Hall’s Bond Cay, Depp’s private, 45-acre island in the Bahamas.
“(The island) is my decompression,” Depp told the July issue of Vanity Fair magazine. “It’s my way of trying to return to normalcy … Escapism is survival to me.”The beaches on Little Hall’s Bond Cay are named after Depp’s partner, Vanessa Paradis; their children, Lily and Jack; actor Marlon Brando; and gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. But he also named one “Heath’s Place” after the late Australian actor Heath Ledger.
“I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful,” Depp said of the island as a whole. “You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom. And that rare beast — simplicity — can be had. And a little morsel of anonymity … Whenever I was getting frustrated about being ‘novelty boy’ and making movies, I told myself, ‘Calm down.’ I can come down here and disappear. I spent the Christmas season here with Vanessa and the kids. You can feed hot dogs to the nurse sharks in the Exumas — but it’s best to not swim when doing it.”
Outtakes After the JUMP
Another place Depp goes when he’s feeling stressed? Into other art forms.“When I can focus on something like guitar or painting, I do,” he told the mag. “I started painting people I admire, like (Jack) Kerouac, Bob Dylan, Nelson Algren, Marlon Brando, Patti Smith, my girl, my kids. I painted Hunter a couple of times. Keith [Wait!Theres Tons More…]
Is pretty boy Zac Efron ready to get his coiffure ruffled? By the likes of screen drool machine Johnny Depp. Phew, we’re blushing at the thought of this. See, High School Musical (HSM) star Zac has reportedly signed a whopping £6m deal to star in the fourth instalment of Pirates Of The Caribbean. It’s believed the deal also includes Zac doing a fourth HSM movie and there are rumours of him starring in a remake of the Kevin Bacon classic Footloose, says The Sun. Johnny will also be cashing in as it’s believed he’ll earn well over £30m to make the next Pirates movie.
Gulp.
A source has told The Sun: “Zac was extremely interested. “But Disney realised they couldn’t make the fourth Pirates movie without Johnny. They had to offer him a small fortune to do it.” We bet.
Hollywood actor George Clooney is heading to the wild west – he’s reportedly set to star as The Lone Ranger. The Oscar winner will join Johnny Depp in the big screen adaptation of the long-running 1950s TV show, according to tabloid reports. A source tells The Sun newspaper, “George is very keen – he’s been trying to do a movie with Johnny for a long time.
“He thinks they’ll make the perfect on-screen partnership.” Depp’s involvement, as sidekick Tonto, was recently confirmed by Disney Studios bosses. The screenplay will be penned by Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.
My Friend Marc and I just rented Sweeny Todd. Thought it was good. He thought it was more of a drama, and I thought it was more of a comedy. The ending rocked.
Ace Showbiz – Johnny Depp has signed on what seems to be a multi-picture deal with Walt Disney Pictures. On Wednesday, September 24, at the Walt Disney Studios Showcase in Kodak Theater in Hollywood, it is revealed that the Academy Award-nominated actor will be collaborating with the mouse house in their three future projects, “Alice in Wonderland”, “The Lone Ranger” and “Pirates of the Caribbean 4″.
Through the studio’s presentation, the 45-year-old has been outed as the erratic Mad Hatter in “Alice”, the upcoming adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, as well as the native American assistant of a masked Old West Texas Ranger, Tonto, in Jerry Bruckheimer-produced “Ranger”. Adding to the fans excitement, Disney’s Dick Cook also mentioned that the fourth “Pirates” movie is in the works hinting that Depp will once again pick up his Jack Sparrow role.
“Alice” is a 3-D part live-action, part computer animated movie from director Tim Burton. Scripted by Linda Woolverton, the story will follow the adventure of Alice in a magical world filled of peculiar and anthropomorphic characters. According to Slash Film, during the showcase, Disney present the film’s concept art showing the classic cartoon in Burton style, complete with curved and slanted corners. Production is scheduled to start in November for March 5, 2010 release.
Meanwhile, “Lone Ranger” is an adaptation of the classic old-time radio and early television show of the same name which is created by George W. Trendle. It resolves around the quest for justice done by a masked Texas Ranger accompanied by his native American assistant and white horse named Silver. The script will be provided by “Pirates of the Caribbean” scribblers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. It has yet to have any release date.
On “Pirates of the Caribbean 4″, much details are still kept well under wraps. Still, words are this fourth film would be focusing on Sparrow as he embarks on a journey to find the Fountain of Youth with Captain Barbossa, leaving Elizabeth and Will out of the adventure. Furthermore, Rope of Silicon suggested that this time, they are forced to team up in order to “defeat some supernatural terror”.
