50 Cent

2009 American Music Awards - Arrivals

AP – Losing 50-plus pounds was a complicated process for 50 Cent — but not an entirely new one.

The rapper, who plays a football player with cancer in the upcoming film “Things Fall Apart,” dropped from 214 pounds to 160 in nine weeks after liquid dieting and running on a treadmill three hours a day.

But the 33-year-old said that when he was shot in the jaw in 2000, he could drink only liquids and his weight dropped to 157.

“This time it was a lot tougher for me,” the 6-foot-tall rapper said in an interview Friday with the Associated Press.

“I had to discipline myself not … to actually have myself be in the physical state to convey the energy I felt. It’s a passion project for me,” said 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson.

The film is about a childhood friend of the rapper who died of cancer, and is in production.

Actors including Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, Tom Hanks and Renee Zellweger are known for adjusting their weight in movies, and 50 said he did research when keeping the weight off got hard.

“I actually got on the computer,” he said. “When it started getting difficult, I was looking to see what their experience was like and I got a chance to see all of the interviews they had at different time periods when they were doing promotion for the projects.”

50 has been gaining the lost weight back, though, and said he currently weighs 198 pounds.

He said he doesn’t anticipate winning awards for his acting role.

“Well, you know, I haven’t received accolades that comes with the success that I’ve had in music,” he said. “It would be a surprise” to win any acting awards, he said, noting that it’s already a reward to have people aware of the role.

He released his fourth album, the gold-selling “Before I Self Destruct,” in November. He kicks off his North American tour Saturday in Detroit.

People – 50 Cent is erasing some of his past – literally.

The rapper – whose real name is Curtis Jackson – has begun removing most of his tattoos. Turns out, that ink is causing a problem as he turns his focus to acting, with roles in the upcoming drama Twelve, costarring Chace Crawford, and the football flick Things Fall Apart, due out next year.

“It cuts down on the amount of time I have to spend in makeup covering them up,” 50 Cent says about his decision, which he calls “an ongoing process.”

Still, don’t expect him to rid himself of all the ink. His arms may be tattoo free, but 50’s vowed to keep a tattoo on his back.

Telegraph – In an interview, the musician also disclosed he would like to party with the Britain’s Got Talent sensation, who has been reported to be shy towards her new found fame.

The 48 year-old Scottish spinster last week reached number one in the US album charts with her debut release, I Dreamed a Dream. It has since held on to the spot on the album charts.

Boyle is said to have already made £5million in two weeks from 3.3m global sales of her debut album of the same name.It was the best US opening for a female artist’s debut album, and the second best overall, since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, according to Billboard.com.

The original rendition of the song on the talent show has had millions of views on YouTube and attracted celebrity followers including Demi Moore. Now 50 Cent, the 34-year-old rapper who was shot nine times in 2000 before finding fame, is the latest celebrity to praise Boyle.“Susan Boyle is hot right now. I got to get her on a track, for real. We’d make a hit,” he told the Daily Mirror.“Everyone is talking about her, the lady from Britain’s Got Talent.“She’s got an amazing voice, and together we’d get everyone dancing. I’m always looking to do something new and she’s cool, so I’ll ask somebody to let her know.”

The rap chart war between 50 Cent and Kanye West is on again – the pair’s new albums will be released a week apart in December. West won the last battle when his album Graduation outsold his chart rival’s Curtis last year, after both records were released on the same day.

And now the rappers are set for a pre-Christmas showdown, with Interscope record bosses confirming 50’s new album, Before I Self Destruct, will hit stores on 9 December – a week before the release of West’s 808’s + Heartbreak. West’s fighting talk has already started – in a blog posting on Friday, the Jesus Walks hitmaker writes, “I guarantee this (808’s + Heartbreak) will be 50’s favorite album of mine. This will be gangster’s album of the year.” – WENN

50 Cent SUES Taco Bell

July 24, 2008

in 50 Cent

50 Cent sued Taco Bell yesterday, saying the restaurant chain made him the star of its hip-hop themed ad campaign without his permission and without paying him a fee.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, accused the Mexican-style fast food chain of “diluting the value of his good name” and employing a guerrilla advertising campaign to fool consumers into thinking he had endorsed the chain, said the lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court.

The lawsuit stated: “Without seeking or obtaining 50 Cent’s authorization, Taco Bell made him the star and focus of its nation-wide advertising campaign by using his name, persona and trademark to promote Taco Bell’s business and products.” The lawsuit accuses the chain of disseminating a letter, addressed to 50 Cent that encourages him to change his name to “79 Cent,” “89 Cent” or “99 Cent”. The letter was designed to promote the company’s “79-89-99 Cent Why Pay More” campaign, while avoiding the multimillion-dollar fee Fiddy might have charged to use his name. The letter was eventually sent to 50, but only after it had been circulated to reporters.
