Avatar Continued its domination at the box office for the seventh week in a row. The film has now surpassed Titanic as the highest grossing film overseas. The film is following in the footsteps of James Cameron’s 1997 Titanic (14 nominations), racking up big box office dollars ($2 billion) and riding Oscar Momentum (Titanic pulled in 14 million and a slew of Oscar noms). Avatar is now just $6 million shy of Titanic’s $600.8 million  domestic record haul with $594.8 million in box office receipts so far.

1. Avatar $30,000,000
2. Edge Of Darkness $17,120,000
3. When In Rome $12,065,000
4. Tooth Fairy $10,000,000
5. Book Of Eli, The $8,770,000
6. Legion $6,800,000
7. Lovely Bones, The $4,735,000
8. Sherlock Holmes $4,510,000
9. Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel $4,000,000
10. It’s Complicated $3,720,400

A not too shabby opening for Mel Gibson. His ‘return’ film Edge of Darkness brought in 17.1 million in its debut week and the second spot in the top 10. The romantic comedy When in Rome starring Josh Duhamel and Veronica Mars Kristen Bell took in a surprising 12.1 million, for a third place finish. The Tooth Fairy came in at No.4 with another 10 million this week, bringing its total now to $26 million. The Book of Eli appears bound to break the $100 million mark. It finished at No. 5 with $8.8 million with a total of $74.4M in its three weeks of release.

Legion fell from No.2 to No.6 this week and brought in $6.8 million for a total of $28 million in two weeks. The Lovely Bones came in at No. 7 with $4.7 million. Sherlock Holmes, Alvin and the Chipmunks and It’s Complicated took the eight, ninth and tenth spots, respectively.
