Variety – S1 Songs Group has acquired the Sheryl Crow music publishing catalogue and agreed to a co-publishing agreement for Crow’s future works.
The deal was valued in the Wall Street Journal as being worth in excess of $10 million.An announcement characterized the deal as enabling the singer to write and record more music for film and TV.Under the arrangement, S1 Songs adds 153 songs released by Crow between 1993 and 2008 to its existing portfolio of over 30,000 songs.”This is a landmark deal for S1 Songs. Sheryl is an icon in the female singer-songwriter genre and was a ground-breaker who paved the way for many of the current successful female singer-songwriters who are dominating the global charts,” said S1 Songs Group global CEO Steve McMellon.
Crow added, “I am very excited about the S1 plans for my music and look forward to a good positive working arrangement.”S1 Songs also secures the rights to Crow’s next two albums. The first is likely due out in early 2010.”Its content has not been finalized, but clearly that’s going to be decided by Sheryl, her management and her label,” said McMellon.Crow’s latest studio effort, “Detours” was released in 2008 and debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Crow has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and has earned 9 Grammy awards, 1 Brit Award and 3 American Music Awards.S1 is an independent publishing company based in London and Dublin.
