Amy Winehouse a no-show at her own birthday bash

in Amy Winehouse

My friend is coming over tonight and is really into Amy Winehouse… Anyway, I think we’re going to rent some good horror movies. I’m obsessed with horror movies, I’ve seen every last one. He tells me of a great moving coming out called Mirrors starring Kiefer Sutherland…He doesn’t usually like horror movies, but in this case he definitely wants to see it. We’re also both looking forward to “The Day the Earth Stood Still”

The bands were booked, the cake was baked and the drinks were ready to flow… all the ingredients for a birthday party to remember. But there was one thing missing – the birthday girl herself. In fact the closest we got to a sight of Amy Winehouse was a picture of her face on the guitar-shaped birthday cake. We know Amy has missed the odd gig or 10, but even we didn’t expect her to miss her own 25th.

A-list friends of the Wino – including hot new singleton Mark Ronson, 33 – travelled from far and wide to to wish her Happy Birthday. Even Amy’s mum Janis, who is battling multiple sclerosis, hobbled in at 9.30pm on crutches. As guests piled into Soho’s Jazz After Dark, Amy’s close pal Blake Wood was determined the party should not start without her. He told landlord and resident artist Sam Shaker: “Until Amy gets here, no bands, no food and no drink. I am in charge here.”

But just before midnight, patience finally ran out and the bands took to the stage. Then there was no stopping everyone, as jugs of cocktails were drained and trays of tapas were scoffed. Hosting Amy’s birthday proved to be an expensive night for Sam, who coughed up £1,500 on food, £1,500 on drinks, £350 on his band and £2,000 on wages, of which Amy’s management would pay only a measly £700.

But Sam, who had hoped to present Amy with a portrait of her and Blake and another of her nan Cynthia, held no grudges. He said: “It was her mum Janis that I felt so sorry for. She was crying – she was so upset.” Also overcome with emotion was Mark Ronson, newly single after his split from Daisy Lowe. The superstar DJ fell in love with some of Sam’s paintings. He told him: “They are so f****** good man. Do my painting. I will give you my card.” Elsewhere, Chasing Pavements star Adele almost started a brawl with a male party-goer. But ex-Big Brother babe Aisleyne didn’t seem to share her feelings – not the way she was sticking her tongue down his throat anyway. At 2.30am, with no sign of Amy, disappointed guests began trooping out. But Mark was not ready to turn in, and invited everyone back to his swanky room at the Haymarket Hotel for a proper knees-up. Now there’s a man who really knows how to party. And at least he actually bothered to turn up.
