Will Katie Holmes Fail?
TICKET SALES SAY ‘YES’
See Ticket Sales Embarassing for Katie Holmes’s Broadway debut
From Star Magazine - “It did not sell like they had hoped for,” a Broadway insider tells Star. “To the theatergoing crowd, generally an older audience, Katie’s not a ‘name’ like Julia Roberts run in Three Days of Rain sold out immediately. Katie hasn’t done anything Broadway patrons recognize her for — except maybe marrying Tom Cruise.” “In mailers sent to special members who get great discounts and great seats, they advertised ‘Arthur Miller’s first great success returns to Broadway starring John Lithgow,’” adds the source. “Katie’s name is mentioned later because it was decided putting her name first was of no use. But when Three Days of Rain was marketed, Julia’s name was at the top and it worked. The play was crap but everyone bought the tickets.”
The MSNBC Scoop – One needs to look no further than the successes of “A Chorus Line” and “Spamalot” for proof that celebrities sell Broadway tickets, but in the case of “All My Sons,” that rule might not necessarily apply. Ticket sales for the show, which stars Katie Holmes and Patrick Wilson, are thus far “definitely off from what the production hoped,” according to a source close to “Sons.” It’s hard to know what exactly is to blame.
From San Francisco Chronicle Via Perez Hilton - A source tells celebrity blogger Perez Hilton sales are “definitely off from what the production hoped,” adding, “You can’t say it’s the economy, because there are shows, like ‘Mamma Mia,’ that are selling out.” And Holmes’ early days on hit teen TV show “Dawson’s Creek” are getting the blame. Another source adds: “It’s not that Katie’s bad in the part. She’s good enough. The producers are just getting the feeling people still want to view Katie as (her character) sweet little Joey Potter.”
From E! – Ticket sales for Katie Holmes‘ new Broadway show are “definitely off from what the production hoped,” even after her parade of bizarre denim. Maybe everyone forgot about Joey Potter’s rousing stage performances.
From the LA TImes – Ticket sales agents and brokers, who had assumed, apparently incorrectly, that Holmes would be this season’s Julia Roberts, are totally bummed and shocked. Oh, please, had they not seen “Mad Money”? Because anyone who did wouldn’t pay a plugged nickel to see Katie onstage.

This wouldn’t be the first bad sign for Katie’s acting career, her last Movie “Mad Money” flopped at the box office, bringing in a paltry $7.7 million, in its opening weekend. Katie Holme’s next career move is a guest starring role on a tv series (see Katie commites career suicide)
—————
Here is what I dont understand about Katie Holmes career. What is she doing to it?? She was HOT after she did the first Batman (finally convincing people she wasn’t just Joey Potter from Dawson’s Creek). But she didn’t come back for the second one!! Why?
Is her career failing because of her marriage to Tom Cruise and all the bad publicity she gets that no stuido wants to take a chance on her? Is that why she’s doing a play? Angelina Jolie has managed to have the kids, the movie star husband and the movie star career. (Although Angelina was more established as a star before Brad Pitt)
it seems Katie is just destroying her career with her choices: A broadway play? An ensemble movie with Diane Keaton? (Mad Money) And now an upcoming TV appearance?

I do think her failing career has everything to do with her marriage to Tom Cruise and her inability to break out from under his shadow. Remember Nicole Kidman? She was always in the magazines and famous and maybe had a few good films when she was with Tom, like To Die For, where she played a tv reporter. But AFTER TOM, her career skyrocketed.
I guess people finally saw her as Nicole Kidman, and no longer Tom Cruise’s wife.

Moulin Rouge. The Others…and the movie hits haven’t stopped since.
